Virginians see fifth least expensive gas

The average price for a gallon of gas across Virginia has stayed steady through September and heading into October, despite rising gas prices in other states, AAA Tidewater announced in a Monday press release.

As of Monday, the average price per gallon of gas in Virginia was $2.62, which ranked fifth among the least expensive gas prices in the U.S.

Gas prices in Hampton Roads are at $2.59 on average, which is the same price as last month and last week, according to the press release. Prices in Hampton Roads are still 28 cents more compared to last year, however.

According to the latest Energy Information Administration Data as of Monday, the national gas price average has increased three cents on the week to reach $2.88, despite gasoline demand dropping to 9 million barrels-per-day and inventories growing to 235.7 million barrels.

The national average for prices at the pumps hasn’t seen $2.88 per gallon since mid-July, according to the press release.

Gasbuddy.com on Monday recorded regular gas prices at Suffolk pumps that ranged from as low as $2.48 to as high as $2.69 per gallon, which is on par with the $2.47-to-$2.69 range recorded on Sept. 17.

The average price per gallon in Suffolk has not eclipsed $2.70 since June 11, according to AAA.
