Horace W. Parson Sr.

Horace W. Parson Sr. passed away on July 24, 2018. Horace was born on April 28, 1923, as the fifth child to the late Rufus Parson and Delia Parson Charlton.
He was a retired agent and executive on the district level for the North Carolina Mutual Company for 40 years. He was a graduate of Providence High School and a product of Virginia State College now known as Norfolk State University. He also received additional training at Paul D. Camp Community College. He was an accountant and part-time businessman establishing Parson Tax Bookkeeping Services. He was a veteran of World War II (Army).
Horace’s early Christian training was in the St. Joseph AME Church in Chesapeake. He became a member of East End Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and also was a member of the Budget Committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Parson Sr. and Delia Parson-Charlton; five brothers, Dr. Rufus Parson, John Parson, Leonard Parson, Charles Parson and Dr. James Parson; two sisters, Marion Ruffins and Delia Jones; son, Victor L. Parson.
He leaves to cherish his wife, Rassie Parson; three sons, Albert Parson, of Portsmouth, Horace Parson Jr. (Betty), of Decatur, Ga., and Timothy Wood, of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Stephanie Croker (Rick), of Suffolk; brother, Wilber Parson, of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at East End Baptist Church, 1056 Portsmouth Blvd., Suffolk. Dr. Wayne D. Faison will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
