Lucy Mae Askew

Lucy Mae Askew, 86, formerly of Parker’s Fork Road, and more recently of Nansemond Pointe Assisted Living in Suffolk, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018.
Miss Askew was born in Gates County on Nov. 8, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Marvin Paul Askew Sr. and Nellie Pierce Askew. A retired receptionist, she worked for Dr. R. Leroy Howell in Suffolk for more than 30 years. She was a faithful member of Parker’s United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Paul Askew Jr., and by her nephew, M.P. Askew III.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Ann Askew; two nieces, Linda Edwards and Kitty Martin; caregivers and friends, Susie Forsythe, Sarah Forsythe and Kristin Martinez; other extended family members; and her neighbors and church family.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Parker’s United Methodist Church and will be conducted by Pastors Casey Estler and Carroll Bundy. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation in the social hall of the church immediately following the service.
