Nansemond River High School standout pitcher Gage Williams earned first team All-Region honors in Class 5 Region A.
It was an impressive honor for Williams considering Nansemond River didn’t make the postseason. However, he was grateful to have been able to earn that honor despite that.
“I am extremely honored to be selected for the first team,” he said.
Williams went 9-1 on the season and finished with 103 strikeouts and a .583 ERA. He had great games against opponents like King’s Fork High School and Indian River High School.
“Honestly, I never felt more comfortable on the mound,” Williams said of his senior season. “I knew every time I was up there I could hit my spots and make the right pitches. I felt strong on the mound but every game my defense was solid behind me making it easier to pitch.”
The senior set some goals for himself, and 100 strikeouts was one of his goals. He also wanted to earn another state title and to make the All-State team. Even though Nansemond River didn’t make the playoffs, he may be one step closer to making an All-State team after making the All-Region team.
Williams will head to Longwood University to play NCAA Division I baseball.
