Fire destroys shed and contents

A residential structure fire destroyed a shed and its contents in the 2800 block of Colonial Drive Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported at 11:09 a.m., and the first units arrived at 11:15 a.m., according to a city press release.

Upon arrival, Suffolk Fire and Rescue found the shed fully involved with the flames threatening the home. The intensity of the flames caused heat damage to the home.

An acetylene tank and a vehicle were inside the garage, and explosions were heard, the press release stated.

Two adult males sustained minor injuries attempting to extinguish the fire before Fire and Rescue arrived. One firefighter also sustained a minor injury. All injured were treated on scene by emergency personnel, the release stated.

The fire was declared a total loss after the fire was brought under control at 11:45 a.m.

The Fire Marshal’s Office will be conducting an investigation to determine a cause of the fire.

Responding units included Battalion 2, Engines 5, 10 and 25, Ladder 5, Rescue 1, Safety 1, EMS-1, and Medics 5 and 10. The Chesapeake Fire Department provided mutual aid and backfilled Station 5.
