Hunter leads Suffolk in scoring

Indiah Hunter led Suffolk Public Schools girls’ soccer in scoring throughout the regular season.
Every girls’ soccer public school team is gearing up to try to make a deep playoff run. With the regular season concluding last weekend, Nansemond River standout Hunter came out as the scoring champion among the three schools.
Hunter led with 29 goals, and coming in second was King’s Fork High School standout Lonni Cox with 18. Ashley Bido scored nine goals for King’s Fork, coming in at third.
Mackenzie Johnson led Lakeland High School with eight goals, with Saleena Lynch of Nansemond River kicking in eight as well.
Johnson, Mikayla Grant, Darcy Kilgore, Callie White and Maria Cullen were the top five scorers for the Lady Cavs this season. Grant had three goals, with the other three Lady Cavs scoring two each.
Hunter, Lynch and Sophie Mitchell rounded out the top three scorers for the Lady Warriors with Mitchell scoring three goals.
Nansemond River will play Maury High School in the Class 5 Region A tournament at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Powhatan Field. Lakeland will play Parkview High School on the road in the Class 3 Region A tournament on Tuesday. King’s Fork will host a game Friday in the Class 4 Region A tournament, with opponent and time still to be determined.
