Lady Bulldog Amber Suits has signed to play field hockey at the University of New Haven.
In a signing ceremony last week at King’s Fork High School, Suits signed her National Letter of Intent to play at UNH. It is a breath of fresh air for the senior, who believes she started her recruiting process relatively late.
Over the past three years, she has gone to numerous showcases, camps and clinics to show off her skills to many different college coaches. She didn’t start to receive offers until November of 2017. It came down to two schools for her, and she chose UNH.
“They have an excellent program for my field of study,” Suits said. “I wanted to go to a school that offered me both my major and a chance to play field hockey. Compared to other schools, UNH was the best fit.”
Suits wants to major in criminal justice. Their programs are geared toward more hands-on learning, which was enticing to Suits.
UNH is going into its second season as a program, and she feels that will be a good opportunity to come in and help set the tone for the program.
“I feel myself and other freshmen that are coming in will bring dedication and tenacity to help grow a strong program. I am excited about the challenges this season will present to me.”
Even though she went through many camps and clinics, it never became tiring to her. She felt like it benefited her as she learned more skills and got to meet different people. They helped her learn things she never knew or tried.
“I knew ever since I started playing field hockey I wanted to go to college and play,” Suits said. “I was happy to be able to go different places and learn different things.”
During her senior season, she was an honorable mention All-District nominee. In seasons past, she has made All-Conference teams.
UNH is a NCAA Division II school and is a part of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
