A Suffolk native and his team are holding onto their place in the NCAA tournament with a chance to make the Elite 8.
Scott Spencer, a former standout at Nansemond River High School, plays for Clemson University, which currently sits in the Sweet 16.
The Tigers have defeated both New Mexico State University and Auburn University in the first and second round of the tournament, respectively. As the No. 5 seed in their region they will match up with No. 1 seeded University of Kansas for a chance at the Elite 8.
Spencer played 10 minutes against Auburn and grabbed two rebounds. They will face Kansas on CBS at 7 p.m. Friday.
In his time at Nansemond River, he was an All-District and All-State performer and averaged 16 points while shooting more than 40 percent on three-pointers as a junior before transferring.
