The Lakeland High School girls’ soccer team got its first win of the season over I.C. Norcom High School Thursday evening.

Lakeland defeated Norcom 5-1 on the road. Mackenzie Johnson led the way with two goals scored. Darcy Kilgore, Mikayla Grant and Kyleigh Hasson also scored goals for the Lady Cavs.

Both Lakeland and Norcom are Class 3 schools, so the win will help Lakeland in the long run come postseason time. Coach Adam Smith mentioned that Lakeland’s schedule is favorable for them in the first half of the season. They can secure the points they need for the regional tournament before playing the tough Southeastern District schools in the second half of their schedule.
