The Virginia Department of Transportation will present potential improvements for Route 58 at three citizen information meetings next week.
The first meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pioneer Elementary School, 150 Pioneer Road. Potential improvements will be along part of Route 58 that spans about 70 miles in Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County, Greensville County and Emporia.
VDOT is seeking ways to ensure safety and preserve the capacity of the highway network without wide scale roadway widenings, according to virginiadot.org.
“This Arterial Management Plan has been requested to identify investment recommendations that will help preserve and enhance this key transportation corridor due to the important role it plays in the region,” the website states.
These meetings will inform citizens about the study and collect feedback on their concerns for the corridor, according to the website. Recommendations for improvements will be made based on ongoing analysis and public feedback. The study is expected to be completed this September.
Citizens may provide oral and written comments at the meeting or submit them to Project Manager Jerry Pauley by March 26. Written comments should be mailed to 1700 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434 or emailed to jerry.pauley@vdot.virginia.gov with “Route 58 Arterial Study” in the subject line.
The other meetings will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Southampton County Office Center in Courtland and from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Greensville County Government Center in Emporia.
