Warriors offensive lineman Harlen St. Louis will continue to play football at Virginia State University.

The Nansemond River High School football team had a memorable season last fall. They won the Class 5 Region A championship and advanced all the way to the state semifinal game. The team success the Warriors had led to players receiving accolades and garnering more college attention.

St. Louis, an all-district and all-region offensive lineman, is expected to come in and compete for the starting spot at center at VSU. The senior admitted that during his junior year, he had not received any significant interest from any college programs, but by the time the playoffs started his senior season, he started to ramp up a lot of interest. Going through schools and picking which one will be the best for your future is never easy, but St. Louis was grateful to be able to have gone through it.

“It is truly humbling and a great feeling to know that there are schools out there that wanted me to play for their program,” he said. “I will forever be grateful. It was not easy. There were a lot of doubting times. I put my faith in God and just took it day by day.”

The senior Warrior had been thinking about attending VSU before the school contacted him. He knew that it could be a good fit for him academically and athletically. Once he went on the campus visit, that’s when he made up his mind and decided that it was going to be his future home.

“I just wanted to go somewhere I felt comfortable at,” he said. “Somewhere I would be able to go and grow as a man and a player.”

VSU felt like St. Louis could come in and help out the program. They need more depth at the center position. St. Louis is excited about the opportunity to be able to compete and possibly start.

He will officially sign his Letter of Intent on Feb. 7, as will many other seniors for the Warriors. Everyone was excited to be a part of the successful season the Warriors had.

“Even though we fell short, our season was very special,” he said. “I am grateful for everything we accomplished. We did things that had not been done in school history. One of those things is sending (players) to play football at the next level.”
