Where are the parents?

To the editor:
In reference to being appalled by the lack of security at KFHS, Mr. Story (Letters to the editor, “‘Appalling lack of security’ at KFHS,” Jan. 28) asks parents to address these concerns to the School Board.
My question is where is the parents’ responsibility? Why are we blaming the schools for all of our children’s actions? Education begins at home with responsibility, honesty and respect. Since when is it OK to punch teachers?
Guns are being brought to school. Where are these children getting these guns from? I would say from home. If you want your child to learn in a safe environment, parents need to teach the word “respect” for teachers and in any person in a position of authority. Arms should be kept in a secure and locked place in your home.
I do agree that cell phones should be put away as soon as they enter school.
Instead of accusing the school system, please work with them on how, as parents and teachers, we can make our schools more of a learning center than a war zone.
