Marvin C. Winslow

Marvin C. Winslow went to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest Calvin Winslow and Nina Alexandria Rountree, and son, Marvin Caleb “Chip” Winslow Jr. He is also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Jesse G. Winslow, Stella M. Winslow, Pleasant “Polly” W. McBride, Preston C. Winslow, Louis T. Winslow, Millard T. Winslow, Ernest “Aleck” Winslow and Bettie W. Bunch.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ella Mae Winslow; daughter, Elizabeth Keith Russell and husband, James Forehand Russell Jr. (Bo); grandchildren, Alexandria Kate Russell and James Forehand Russell III; sister, Emily W. Powell and husband, Russell; sister-in-law, Helen Winslow; many devoted nieces and nephews; and a special godson, Jay Saunders.

Marvin was retired after 48 years as a Master Shipbuilder from Newport News Shipyard. He served in the Virginia National Guard, was a U.S. Army Veteran, was a past member of Chuckatuck Ruritan Club, a lifetime member of Chuckatuck Fire Department, worked the Suffolk voting polls for more than 50 years and was a member of Oakland Christian Church.

Marvin loved his family and was a friend to man. He was a wonderful role model to his children and grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Oakland Christian Church, 5641 Godwin Blvd., with the Rev. Wayne Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018.
