Elizabeth Peterson Carter

Mrs. Elizabeth Peterson Carter of Baltic Street, Suffolk, departed this life to receive her eternal rest and peace on Oct. 8, 2017. The Southampton County native was born to the late Edward and Rosa Williams Peterson on Nov. 26, 1925.

Mrs. Carter attended and graduated from the public schools of the county. Upon high school graduation, she matriculated and graduated from Elizabeth City University, Elizabeth City, N.C.

For many years, Mrs. Carter was a member of East End Baptist Church in Suffolk. She was also a member of Franklin Tri County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Mrs. Carter was an educator in the Southampton County Public School System for more than 35 years.

She was the loving wife of Samuel B. Carter Sr. until his demise in 2008. Elizabeth’s family and friends will cherish her memory forever. Left to continue her legacy are one son, Samuel B. Carter Jr. (Bridget), of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, Brianna D. Carter, Samuel A. Carter, Kenneth D. Baker II, Brandon M. Baker; nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday evening, Oct. 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Move of God Church, 221 S. Main St., Franklin. A service celebrating Mrs. Carter’s amazing life will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at East End Baptist Church, 1056 Portsmouth Blvd., Suffolk, with the pastor, Dr. Wayne D. Faison, delivering the eulogy. The committal and benediction will be held in Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M.
