After starting the season 0-3, the Saints evened their record at 3-3 with a win Friday over St. Anne’s Belfield School.
In the last two weeks, the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team has put up 98 points. They scored 50 points in their win last week and added 48 this week on the road in a 48-28 win.
It was the first road win of the season for the Saints. Even though they have won three games in a row, coach Mike Biehl and his team are not satisfied.
“The biggest challenge from here is continuing to challenge ourselves,” Biehl said. “We want to get better, and that is what we are going to try to do.”
During the Saints; three-game losing streak, Biehl was still confident about his offense and its potential. They have shown the last three games why Biehl didn’t panic when things didn’t start well.
Robby Tew played what Biehl considered his best game Friday night since he has been the coach at NSA. Against STAB, he was 15-19 with 210 yards and four touchdowns, which included 45 yards rushing.
Erek Smith had two touchdowns, and Zac Morris had two touchdowns, as well. George Pettaway had two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for another.
“It was an overall good performance by the team,” Biehl said. “We are starting to build more confidence with each win. I credit my guys, because they stuck with me and the vision I had, and now it is really starting to pay off.”
Defensively the Saints have been able to mix up rotations and execute.
With the Saints sitting at 3-3 they will now go into their bye week. NSA wants to take the time to get healthy and to find ways to attack and take their game to the next level.
After the bye week, the Saints will take on Norfolk Academy for NSA’s homecoming.
