The deadline to recognize accomplished women of South Hampton Roads is fast approaching.
The Young Women’s Christian Association South Hampton Roads chapter is accepting nominations for the 30th Annual Women of Distinction awards.
The deadline was pushed to 5 p.m. this Friday to allow more nominations in the wake of recent hurricanes and the start of the school year, according to Mary Kate Andris, president and chief executive officer of YWCA South Hampton Roads.
Nominees must reside or work in Suffolk, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach or Western Tidewater at the time of the nomination. Each must exhibit professionalism and leadership, show commitment to South Hampton Roads and impact their community through volunteer, civic or activities.
Furthermore, they must explain how they have contributed to the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism, Andris said in an email.
“Women of Distinction are women from all walks of life in our community whose professional accomplishments and/or philanthropic efforts truly epitomize the potential of every woman,” Andris stated in the press release. “The honorees must exhibit a dedication to our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women by promoting peace, justice, dignity and freedom for all.”
The 12 winners are expected to be announced this October, and will be recognized at the annual Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon scheduled for March 29, 2018.
