Ladies of Suffolk will be able to enjoy a free shopping spree for clothes at a community church next weekend, and church members are looking for even more clothes to offer.

Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church is accepting donations for its ladies-only clothing drive up until the giveaway this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Donors can bring any unwanted shirts, shoes, pants and other pieces of clothing for both men and women to the church office at 3488 Godwin Blvd.

Lynne Grosso, Westminster connections coordinator and organizer for the event, was inspired to do this by her own experiences with such clothing rallies for women during her studies at Bible school in Australia.

“It was so much fun, so I decided to bring it with me whenever I went,” Grosso said. “It’s great to share with your girlfriends.”

Women will show up at 10 a.m. at the church to discuss fashion choices for a half an hour before going through their options. Grosso said women have been bringing industrial-sized bags of clothing for the drive, amounting to a few closets’ worth as of Thursday and counting.

“There is a short window of opportunity when women are excited to clean out their closets, and if you can get them when they’re in that window, you can get heaps of clothes,” Grosso said with a chuckle.

She expects to see plenty of women light up when they peruse the selection this Saturday, looking for something for their husbands, children or their own personal wardrobe.

She doesn’t expect to turn anyone away this Saturday.

“I don’t expect to say no to anybody,” she said. “The more the merrier.”
