A portion of downtown Suffolk lost power on Tuesday afternoon due to a downed live power line and a separate tree branch on a power line.
The downed power line was reported at 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Market and Pine streets, according to a city press release. That incident closed the intersection and affected the traffic light at Saratoga and Market streets.
In addition, a tree branch that fell on a power line at Katherine Street and East Constance Road affected the traffic light at Finney Avenue and Pinner Street.
Emergency responders were on scene at both locations, and Dominion Virginia Power was notified, according to the release.
The Morgan Memorial Library closed at 4 p.m. for the rest of the day. Suffolk City Hall remained open using generator power.
