Anthony Highsmith, 42, was arrested outside of the Young-Laine Courthouse Thursday morning as he arrived for an appearance in General District Court on a traffic-related matter, according to a press release from the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office.

The bomb threat was called in about 9:30 a.m. July 5 and caused the evacuation of all offices in the building, according to the press release.

“Bomb threats of this nature severely disrupt the business of the courts and cause delays in an already overcrowded court docket and unnecessary expense to the courts and Isle of Wight County,” the press release stated.

Highsmith has been a suspect since the bomb threat was made, the press release stated. The month-long investigation into Highsmith examined his whereabouts at the time of the call.

Highsmith, whose last known address was the 4300 block of Ennisdale Drive, was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond on two felony charges, threatening to bomb or damage a building and use of a phone or other device to threaten or intimidate.
