The Isle of Wight County Department of Economic Development will hold an open house and community meeting this month to discuss the potential reuse of a former school site.
The county received a Community Development Block Grant Planning Grant to help fund a market analysis and feasibility study, in cooperation with the owner, for the site of the former James River Christian Academy, located at 14353 Benns Church Blvd.
The school closed in 2007. The 24.8-acre property has had some use in the meantime, including serving as a church meeting place. It is currently owned by Benns Saint Luke LLC.
The events on Aug. 24 will include an open house from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the gymnasium at the former school. A community meeting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sentara St. Luke’s Community Room, 20209 Sentara Way, Carrollton.
The open house and community meeting will introduce the community to the project and “create momentum for stakeholder participation in the planning process,” states a flier for the event.
