A Suffolk school is planning a fundraising cornhole competition this weekend, along with other family friendly activities.
Suffolk Christian Academy will hold its annual cornhole tournament Saturday at the Southside Baptist Church campus on Carolina Road. The tournament and other activities are being organized by the school’s Booster Club of parents, teachers and other staff to benefit the athletic program.
The tournament will invite sixth- to 12th-graders to compete in teams of two, plus adults. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded. There will also be cornhole boards for younger players not competing in the tournament to play on.
“We wanted something that everybody could participate in,” SCA Headmaster Tamra VanDorn said. “Anybody can come out and play cornhole.”
The campus will have other games available and numerous vendors, including small local businesses and Chick-fil-A, according to athletic director Joshua Butts. There will be snow cones and other concessions.
Proceeds will go toward equipment, uniforms and other essentials for the school’s athletic teams. This includes soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, golf, basketball and tennis teams. Butts said the school is also looking to incorporate wrestling.
“The money that we’re able to raise in these tournaments goes to help offset the costs related to those sports and the facilities and equipment for every sport we have,” Butts said.
Cornhole registration will be $10 for children and $15 for adults, and the event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 809-6606 or email school@scaknights.org for more information.
