A man whose car flipped over the guardrail and into the trees along Route 58 near the entrance to the regional landfill avoided major injuries, but eastbound access to the landfill has been closed while the crash is under investigation.
Police were called to the scene of the accident at Route 58 and Bob Foeller Drive at 11:32, according to a city press release.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet pickup truck had changed lanes abruptly, causing a passenger vehicle to flip and cross the guardrail and come to rest in the tree line beside the road, officials stated.
The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment, according to the release. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
