A 1-0 overtime loss to Briar Woods High School on Friday ended a big season for the Nansemond River High School boys’ soccer team.
The Warriors weren’t able to score a goal Friday afternoon during their 5A state semifinal loss at Westfield High School.
The score didn’t indicate how well the Warriors played. The game went into overtime after Nansemond River did a good job counterattacking Briar Woods’ shots on goal all evening. Both teams stalled during the first overtime period.
During the second overtime period, a goal by Brad Snively of Briar Woods ended the Warriors’ season.
However, the Warriors made school history. The team accumulated the most wins in a season by any boys’ soccer team in previous years and became the first to clinch a state tournament berth.
