The season came to an end Friday for King’s Fork High School’s girls’ soccer team, which lost on penalty kicks against Jefferson Forest High School.
It was a hard-fought game for the Lady Bulldogs, and the 1-1 tie at the end of 100 minutes of regulation and overtime play sent the game into penalty kicks.
A 4-3 edge gave Jefferson Forest the win.
Rebecca Washburn scored the only goal for the Lady Bulldogs. Three minutes into the game, a left-footed corner ball sailed in, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. King’s Fork kept the lead for much of the game, until a goal by Jefferson Forest in the 83rd minute tied things up.
Both teams went back and forth missing opportunities in the overtime period until the penalty kicks.
Regardless of the outcome, King’s Fork girls’ soccer team made history with their program. It is the first time the girls’ team had advanced to the state level.
King’s Fork goalie Jordan Fransee played a solid the game for the Lady Bulldogs, forcing Jefferson Forest to work for everything they earned.
