Chowan University awards students
Chowan University celebrated the academic and student organization accomplishments of students and faculty for the 2016-2017 academic year at the Awards Day Convocation on April 19. The following Suffolk residents were among those who received awards:

Terra Ball inducted to Phi Kappa Phi
Terra Ball, of Suffolk, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Ball was initiated at Old Dominion University.
Ball is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Bob Jones University names Dean’s List
The following Suffolk students are among approximately 860 Bob Jones University students named to the Dean’s List for academic achievement during the Spring 2017 semester.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.0-3.74 grade point average during the semester.

CNU announces Dean’s List
Christopher Newport University recently announced the Dean’s List for the spring 2017 semester. These Suffolk students were enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, earned no final grade below C and earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Two named to Dean’s List at WVWC
Hunter Lowe and Kelsey O’Leary, both of Suffolk, were named to the Dean’s List at West Virginia Wesleyan College for the 2017 spring semester. Wesleyan’s Dean’s List requires students to earn a grade point average of 3.5-3.9 in 12 or more semester hours.
Nickert makes Dean’s List
Noah Nickert has been named to the Dean’s List at the College of William & Mary for the spring semester of his junior year.
Nickert’s parents are Joe and Candy Nickert. His grandparents are Ossie and Becky Duvall.
