A good kind of Hurricane

A powerful thanks to all who voted for a name to be used by the future baseball and softball teams at Paul D. Camp Community College. The finalists were the Fighting Lumberjacks, the Fighting Pinecones and the Hurricanes, the latter of which won with 386 votes.
As with electing a candidate for office, you’re invested just by voting. Participating in the naming shows you’re interested in being a part of something that holds promise for all involved. For example, having the teams will become a source of pride.
Next up will be the matter of getting a coach, followed by upgrading the field in Franklin.
Meanwhile, our sister paper, The Tidewater News, is involved in helping with the logo design, and we anticipate that readers will get a chance to vote on that, as well. Watch the Suffolk News-Herald for more information on how that voting will take place.
Like you, we look forward to the day when umpires call out “Play ball!” for our local college teams.
