One dead, one charged in shooting

Suffolk police arrested a Chesapeake man on charges including second-degree murder after an apparent shooting early Tuesday morning.

Tyrone Lee Bailey, 26, also of Chesapeake, died in the ambulance en route to the hospital, according to a city press release.

Troyonne Markest Ellis, 28, is charged with second-degree murder, armed burglary and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Emergency Communications received a call at 6:01 a.m. advising of an adult male that was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the Magnolia Lakes Trailer Park in the 1100 block of Nansemond Parkway, according to the press release.

The suspect and victim knew each other, and the incident is considered domestic in nature, according to the press release.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available, the press release stated. It was the city’s first homicide of the year. There had been at least two at this time last year.
