Shooting suspect arrested

Suffolk Police Department’s No. 1 most wanted man was arrested in New York Thursday morning by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Gary Lee Legette was apprehended without incident at an apartment building in the Bronx. He was wanted on multiple felony counts stemming from a shooting on Feb. 23.
The shooting was reported at 3:26 p.m. that day. Police responded to Sentara Obici Hospital, where an adult male had been transported by acquaintances due to a gunshot wound, according to a city press release.
Preliminary investigation found that the incident occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Gloucester Street in the South Suffolk neighborhood, according to the press release.
The victim was 28-year-old Kevon J. Artis, of Suffolk. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the release.
Legette, of Suffolk, is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, three counts of attempted malicious wounding, shoot, stab, cut or wound, shooting from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied building, discharging a firearm in public with injury and eight counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
