Helen Peebles Pearson

Helen Peebles Pearson of 116 Nancy Drive departed this earthly life on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at her residence.
In her early life, Helen graduated from Booker T. Washington High School where she was a basketball star and cheerleader. She took great pride in being a debutante.
Helen was a dedicated employee of Suffolk Public Schools for 44 years. During her time there, she touched countless lives while transporting students to and from school.
Later in her career she accepted a unique assignment for special needs children. This assignment was a demonstration of her concern and care for those around her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Pearson. She is survived by her mother, Earlene Peebles, and predeceased by her father, Willie Miles Peebles; two brothers, Peter Mitchell of Maryland and Willie Miles Jr. of New York; and a sister, Carla Peebles of New York.
Helen’s legacy is entrusted to her children, three daughters and three sons: Lisa Peebles-Johnson (Carol), Shaundra Peebles, Kenneth Peebles (Donna), Jacqueline Peebles, Glenn Peebles and Travis Peebles.
Helen extended herself to her grandchildren as a mother and raised them as her own. She leaves: Adriana Peebles, Adrian Peebles, Christopher Hearn and Gabrielle Saunders. She touched another generation of grandchildren. She also leaves: Kendon Peebles, Khristian Peebles, Kristina Peebles, Jonathan Peebles and Jordan Peebles.
To cherish her memory, she also leaves beloved great-grandchildren, Aidan Peebles, Anica Peebles, Christopher R. Hearn and Mason Hearn.
Helen cherished her friendship with Geneva Butts Hall. She touched many lives along the years and left her mark on a multitude of others left to care for her memory.
A celebration of life will be held at noon Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2635 E. Washington St. She will be entombed at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
