Contractor licensing class set

The deadline to register for Basic Contractor Business Licensing at Paul D. Camp Community College is March 3.

This session will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on March 7 and 14, at the college’s Regional Workforce Development Center, 100 North College Drive, Franklin.

This is an eight-hour course that provides an overview of the statutes and regulations that govern contractor licensing in Virginia. The course, led by Donald Goodwin, city of Franklin director of community development, is approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation and Board of Contractors.

Successful completion earns a participant .8 continuing education units.

Topics will include: starting a business in Virginia; laws and regulations; contractor limits and classifications; Virginia state statutes relating to contractors; statement of consumer protections; the licensing process; obtaining a contract; customer service and new home warranties; Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code; underground utilities; insurance; Virginia taxes; labor law; erosion and sediment control; Virginia Occupational Safety and Health; and liens.
