A good turn on a bad morning

To the editor:
I was sitting in a booth at the Huddle House Restaurant on Route 460 in Suffolk recently, waiting for a friend to join me for breakfast.
To save some time, I reached over to grab a menu to browse and, in the process, knocked over the stand holding multiple menus, promotional and daily special cards, which then knocked over the bottle of ketchup and the salt and pepper shakers.
As if that already was not embarrassing enough, the trucker in the next booth began to laugh and could not stop. When I said the incident was not that funny, he apologized, but he kept laughing.
My friend arrived, and we ordered our meals. As the trucker was leaving, he told us both to enjoy our meals and not to worry about the bill — he had taken care of it.
I am not sure if I embarrassed him when I called him out for laughing at my misfortune or if he just wanted to turn around what was starting out as an awkward day, but I want to thank him and let him know how much we appreciated his kindness.
I also want to let him know that we paused from eating and offered a prayer that God would keep him safe on the road.
Thanks again, Mr. Trucker, from Brenda and Joyice. You truly made our day.
