Roxanna Bernice Taylor

Mrs. Roxanna Bernice Taylor, 80, of Suffolk, received her heavenly wings on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Affectionately known as “Foxy Roxy” and “Grandma Roc,” she was born in Nansemond County to the late Daniel and Roxanna Harrell on Oct. 23, 1936. She attended East Suffolk High School. She worked and retired from General Electric and worked at Walmart until she became ill in 2012. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Roxanna is preceded in death by her husband, James “Peanut” McCoy Taylor; five sisters, Clementine Jones, Ella Kee, Shirley Brown, Barbara Wilson and Vivian Blount; one brother, Mojestine Harrell; a stepson, William Darden; and two nieces, Regina Wilson and Antoinette Scott.

Roxanna is survived by her daughters, Pamela Lynn Taylor and Mary Taylor Woods (Ollis Jr.), of Suffolk; a son, Charlie Askew Jr., of Portsmouth; a brother, Walter Harrell (Lisa), of New Haven, Conn.; four grandchildren, Kandace Bernice Taylor-Tysinger (Dennis), Vandell Mccoy Taylor (Sharnetta), Kevin Jerraud Wilson and Ollis Woods III; three great-grandchildren, Nashyrah Joyner, Aiyanna Sample and Harper Tysinger; two stepdaughters, Mary Rodgers (Rob) and Diane L. Darden; four step-grandchildren, Dion Jordan, Trekita Ashhurst (Lavell), William Darden Jr. and Sherri Darden; and her loving caregivers, Helen Simmons and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice.

Visitation will be held at Harris Family Funeral Home in Suffolk on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, from 3 to 6 p.m. The family will not have visitors at their residence on Wednesday evening after 4 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held at East End Baptist Church on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with the home going arrangements. You may send condolences to the family at www.vharrisfuneralhome.com.
