Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s boys’ basketball team defeated Hampton Roads Academy 67-65 on Tuesday to close out the regular season.
NSA went on the road to face HRA in the final regular season matchup in Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools play. The Saints’ win was their third in a row. With the win, NSA finishes with a 12-10 record overall and a TCIS record of 4-5.
D.J. White led the way for the Saints on Tuesday with 13 points. Allen Strothers and Spencer Salmon both added 11 points.
It was the first time NSA has defeated HRA twice in a season.
“We have made tremendous strides,” Saints coach Lamont Strothers said. “We are starting to put it all together defensively and offensively.”
Strothers likes his team’s collective effort and feels it will serve the Saints well in the postseason tournament. In Strothers’ second year as head coach, he can see the progress in his team from last year around this time.
When Strothers was hired, he didn’t have a full offseason at his disposal as he did this year. Though NSA is a very young team, it will continue to make strides.
TCIS seeding will put NSA at sixth in the tournament. They will play at Norfolk Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday
