Harvey L. Knight

Harvey L. Knight, also known as “Pete,” died Jan. 19, 2017, at Sentara Hospice Center in Virginia Beach.

He was born May 17, 1930, in Nansemond County. Harvey was a lifelong faithful member of Tabernacle Christian Church, where he also served on the usher board. He attended East Suffolk High School, and he retired for the Norfolk Naval Supply Center after 34 years of service. He was a member of Lodge 231 for more than 50 years, where he also served as a past worship master.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, William Harvey Smith and Bessie Knight Miller; his wife, Annie Louise Knight; and his daughter, Synda E. Knight.

He is survived by five children, Diann K. Worrell, Harvey L. Knight (Patricia), Van M. Knight, Cosette Knight and Dwayne Knight (Melvonia); five grandchildren, Tasha Kelly (Aaron), Kevin Knight (Bertha), Dedrick Knight (Sarah), Eric Knight (Melvion), Travis Knight, Isaiah Knight and Stephanie Knight; a host of great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by a special longtime friend, Mr. Eddie Hicks.

Mr. Knight visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A home going celebration will take place at noon on Thursday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Bishop Carlton Upton Sr., eulogist.
