Deputy involved in crash

A crash involving an Isle of Wight County sheriff’s deputy backed up traffic on the James River Bridge during Friday’s morning rush hour.
Deputy Jeremy Hall was responding to a crash on the southbound side of the bridge about 6:23 a.m., according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
He approached an emergency access point near the draw bridge on the northbound side and attempted to make a U-turn with his emergency equipment activated, according to the press release. He was struck by two vehicles.
He was transported by Carrollton Volunteer Fire and Rescue to Riverside Regional Medical Center for evaluation, according to the release. He was released with minor injuries.
The Virginia State Police will investigate the crash involving the deputy, the release stated.
“The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department and the Virginia State Police for their quick response to this crash and the assistance provided Deputy Hall,” the release stated.
