In their first Southeastern District meet of 2017, the Nansemond River boys’ and girls’ swim teams brought home wins over Great Bridge.
Both Warriors swim teams improved to 3-1 with the Tuesday wins at Southside Aquatics in Norfolk. The boys’ team won 100-60, and the girls’ team won 87-83.
It was the first time in school history that the Nansemond River girls’ swim team had defeated the Great Bridge girls’ swim team.
The girls’ matchup came down to the very last race, the Medley relay. Selby Heyman was the anchor for the relay team, and they were down by a couple of seconds before she jumped into the pool. Soon, the Lady Warriors had won the event by four seconds.
“This was a very beneficial meet,” Warriors coach James “Shamus” Riley said. “All of our swimmers had personal bests.”
Nansemond River was set to swim against Western Branch on Thursday. For the boys’ team, this was expected to be a big meet, as they have never beaten Western Branch.
