Girl Scout Troop 5292 is hoping to raise funds for a future international trip.

The high school students hope to travel to Italy or Greece or possibly both in the summer of 2018. At one point, the group also considered going to Australia.

“They’re excited and are having a hard time deciding where to go,” said Cheryl Hendricks, senior leader and troop coordinator.

The troop plans two fundraising efforts next month for the trip.

On Dec. 11 from 2 to 5 p.m., the girls and their parents will babysit children ages 2 to 12 at Beech Grove United Methodist Church. The cost per child will be $10.

Most of the Scouts are Red Cross First Aid and babysitter certified, according to Hendricks.

The children will be split up by age group and will participate in an array of arts, crafts and games and watch videos during the duration of the event.

To register, parents must send their names, their cell phone numbers, their children’s names and ages to pnotroop5292@gmail.com. The opportunity is open to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis due to limited space. The deadline to register is Dec. 9.

The second fundraiser is a letters-from-Santa promotion.

Letters will be printed with a holiday letterhead and will be mailed in time for Christmas.

“It looks like it’s a letter from Santa,” Hendricks said.

The troop asks parents to include their names, phone numbers, home addresses, their children’s names and their children’s top three wish-list items. Parents can also include a major accomplishment achieved by their kids. Once again, this information can be sent to pnotroop5292@gmail.com.

The cost per letter is $5. Parents will be emailed with payment instructions.

The troop decided to raise money before making a decision of where to go.

“We want the girls to see how much work is involved,” Hendricks said.

A few years back, the troop hosted fundraisers to take a trip to New York.
