The King’s Fork High School football program was represented well in the Conference 17 all-conference teams.
The Bulldogs’ season ended last Saturday after a close battle with Heritage High School in the first round of the 4A East VHSL playoffs. Even though the Bulldogs finished the season with a 4-7 record, many of their players received honors for their individual efforts.
Coach Scottie Littles had 10 players acknowledged for all-conference honors in his first year as head coach while also having two players break school records.
Juniors Darran Butts, Cherrod Joe and T.J Hart led the way with first-team honors. Butts rushed for more than 1,000 yards and added 10-plus touchdowns in his first year as full-time running back for the Bulldogs. Cherrod Joe set a Bulldogs single-season receiving record with 821 in the regular season. Hart set a Bulldogs record for interceptions in a season with 11 and was not only first-team all-defense but also a part of the first-team all-purpose team as well.
“It’s an honor to be recognized,” Hart said of he and his team’s accomplishments. “It shows off all the hard work that we put in, and the same for my teammates. They did an amazing job this year. I love those guys.”
Senior Austin Williams was named to the second-team offense, while junior quarterback Justin German was named honorable mention. Trayshawn Mitchell, a true freshman, was named all-defensive second team. Sophomores Chris Shearin and Devin Chambliss round out the second team for the Bulldogs. Junior Dennis Whitehead received honorable mention as well as kicker/punter Nick Griffin.
Everyone except for Williams will be returning next season for the Bulldogs. Shearin was the only player that returned this year that was a starter in the previous year.
“We have a good group of guys who are returning next year that are very talented,” Littles said. “I’m proud of all these guys, even the ones that didn’t get recognized. The coaches coach these guys hard, and the kids were buying in. These guys are not just good football players but good kids as well.”
Now Littles and the Bulldogs will be looking forward to their first full offseason with each other. Littles is excited about the future and watching his guys mature as they manage the offseason.
