Family displaced after fire

A family of six was displaced from their home after a fire early Wednesday.
A call at 4:58 a.m. reported smoke in the area of Finney Avenue and Hill Street in downtown Suffolk, according to a city press release. A neighbor led firefighters to the 100 block of Oakdale Terrace when units were on scene at 5:05 a.m.
Crews saw light smoke coming from the home when they arrived and found the occupants evacuating. The fire was confined to a small room at the front of the residence.
The home suffered smoke damage, and the American Red Cross will assist three adults and three children that have been displaced.
The fire was determined to be electrical, according to the press release. There were no injuries.
