The season ended for the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys’ soccer last week after a first-round conference exit at the hands of Norfolk Academy. NSA finished the season with a 4-11-2 record, but that didn’t overshadow the solid production they got out of their players this season.
Owen Firnstahl was selected to the first team, and Gustav Berner was selected to the second team.
The accomplishment was big for Firnstahl, because he didn’t know when he’d be on the field this year due to a knee injury he suffered over the summer. Firnstahl’s biggest game this year was when he scored four goals in a 6-1 victory over Peninsula Catholic.
“This made me really proud of how far I’ve come this season,” Firnstahl said. “(From) didn’t know when I would start playing this season to making first team all-conference. It’s crazy and I couldn’t have done it without every single one of my teammates.”
Berner finished up his senior season making the second team.
“I feel honored to have made second-team all-conference,” Berner said. “Overall we had a good season, even though we didn’t get the results we wanted. It was good to see the younger players develop and grow as the season went on.”
