CenterPoint Intermodal Center in Suffolk has been certified as a Tier 4 Certified Site and its lot No. 3 as a Tier 5 Certified Site.
“We are pleased to be the first recognized site in the Commonwealth with Tier 4 and Tier 5 Certifications,” said Bob Harbour, senior vice president of development at CenterPoint.
“At CenterPoint, we strive to be the market leader by providing first-to-market development sites for our customers and potential clients. This is a great achievement for CenterPoint, CIC-Suffolk, the Hampton Roads region and the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
To achieve Tier 4 Certification, a site must have all major infrastructure components in place to serve the site. Capacities include 250,000 gallons per day of water and sewer capacity, 10MW electrical capacity, 250 acres minimum with 100 acres developable, fiber available to site and zoning be appropriate for industrial/commercial development.
Criteria for Tier 5 Certification for lot No. 3 includes having all critical infrastructure in place and being pad/shovel-ready. Lot No. 3 is currently pad/shovel-ready to accommodate a facility up to 310,000 square feet.
“We are building the port to deliver economic vitality and to compete as a global gateway for generations to come,” said John F. Reinhart, chief executive officer and executive director of the Port of Virginia.
“Our $670 million infrastructure investments at NIT and VIG reinforce our commitment to having world-class terminals to handle the cargo, but that is only one part of the equation. CenterPoint’s Tier 4 and 5 Certifications at CIC-Suffolk are further proof that CenterPoint is ready to rapidly respond to develop class one space and that Virginia is ready, willing and able to meet the needs of growing businesses.”
“The Commonwealth established the Virginia Business Ready Sites Program to highlight large acreage sites with critical infrastructure ready for development and to further Virginia’s reputation as a great state for business,” said Todd Haymore, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade.
“With Tier 4 and Tier 5 Certification in hand, CIC-Suffolk is recognized now as one of Virginia’s premier sites to attract logistics companies.”
