Despite a fast start, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy fell 65-12 to Atlantic Shores Christian School Friday night, dropping the Saints to 3-6 on the year.
The Seahawks started the game off scoring on a four-yard run. The Saints came back and followed up with a score on a 23-yard pass to Ehron Knight.
“We started fast like we usually do on offense,” Saints coach Mike Biehl said. “We matched their first score. It was a solid drive for us. We were winning our matchups early.”
At the end of the first quarter, Atlantic Shores led 14-6. The Seahawks came into Friday night’s game ranked in the top five of the TCIS poll. The second quarter was the biggest shift for the Saints, as they failed to score while Atlantic Shores put up 30 points.
“We made some pretty simple mistakes defensively,” Biehl said. “Not covering our gaps and over-running some things that we practiced. Their size gave us a little trouble up front. Offensively, we couldn’t really get the run game going.”
“We didn’t follow our assignments well enough on defense,” the Saints’ Robby Tew said. “On offense, we needed to play better and hold our blocks. We will get better.”
Robby Tew led the way offensively for the Saints. He completed 10 of his 25 passes for 206 yards. Knight had a big game receiving with 110 yards on six catches and a touchdown. Senior Keshaun Moore added the other touchdown for the Saints. He finished the game with 53 yards from scrimmage.
“Ehron had a pretty big night for us, as well as a couple of other players,” Biehl said. “It’s just about being consistent from start to finish.”
For the last game of the season, the Saints will be taking on Hampton Roads Academy. At this point in the season, the Saints want to make sure they go into the offseason on a positive note.
“We want to go out and honor our seniors the right way for what they’ve done for us over the years,” Biehl said. “It will also be about what foundation the young guys want to lay for next year that will give us what we need to going into the offseason.”
“All we can do is focus and put this game behind us,” the Saints’ Keshaun Moore said. “We have to get ready for HRA and finish the season strong.”
NSA will be at Hampton Roads Academy at 7 p.m. Nov. 4.
