In preparation for the upcoming election, a Christian organization is hosting a seminar discussing the Electoral College.

The course, taking place on Sept. 12, will teach the history of the Constitution and how political parties have affected the college.

Gary Porter, executive director of the Constitution Leadership Initiative, will be the speaker for the evening.

“Poll after poll shows that Americans don’t know how the Constitution works and how our government operates,” Porter said.

Porter will be the first of 12 speakers for this year’s Lessons in Liberty series. Now in its third year, the series covers a variety of “hot-button issues and cultural topics,” said Max Lyons, director of teaching services at the foundation.

“We present a biblical perspective on these things,” Lyons said.

The courses are offered at the foundation’s office in Chesapeake. On average, 60 to 80 people attend in person and virtually. The foundation hosts live streams for each of its speaking engagements, attracting audiences from around the world.

Lyons also said the lecture videos have been implemented in some home schooling curriculum in the area.

In October, the foundation will host a session to empower high school and college students in understanding the biblical principles of America’s founding documents.

FACE also hosts group tours to historic sites in the Jamestown area.

For more than 50 years, the foundation has taught Christian history and biblical principles to restore Christian self-government and Christian community values.

Registration costs for the Lessons in Liberty courses in September and October is $10 each. To register, visit the foundation’s website at FACE.net.
