One dead, one arrested in Beach robbery

One Suffolk man is dead and another is in custody after what police say was an attempted robbery near the Oceanfront area of Virginia Beach on Sunday.
Virginia Beach Police received a call for a gunshot wound about 2:29 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of 22nd Street, according to a press release from Virginia Beach. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and another person was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Detectives learned during the investigation that three suspects allegedly targeted the residence and entered it with the intent to commit a robbery. During the incident, one of the suspects discharged a weapon, striking another of the suspects.
Michael Scott, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene, the press release stated.
After the weapon discharged, the other two suspects fled the scene, according to the press release. The responding officers searched the area and found one of the suspects, 26-year-old Garry Ta’Sheen Hamlin, of Suffolk.
Hamlin has been charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of use of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and armed burglary.
Hamlin is being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center with no bond, according to the release.
