Best wishes in the Isle

Finding a qualified leader for any endeavor is almost always a challenge. Search committees must be diligent in seeking the right person for the job. Experience, education, personality and reputation are important considerations.
After former Isle of Wight County Administrator Anne Seward resigned last December, the Board of Supervisors quickly found those traits in Sanford B. Wanner, who agreed to serve as an interim administrator. He brought a set of qualifications that have enabled the county to operate smoothly.
County spokesman Don Robertson has played a large part in keeping Isle of Wight departments on track, especially during the time between Seward and Wanner. Robertson’s hard work was rewarded earlier this month, when he was named assistant administrator.
Meanwhile, the search for a permanent leader continued. Many applicant interviews were necessary. Finally, the announcement was made late Thursday evening: Randy R. Keaton will be the next county administrator, and he takes office on Sept. 1.
He’s expected to move to Isle of Wight, which will serve to strengthen his own commitment to the people as well as the job.
We’re confident the supervisors and others involved have been thorough in their search, and we wish Keaton and Robertson much success in their new roles.
