Car show to support KF band

An inaugural car and bike show is scheduled for July 9 to support the marching band at King’s Fork High School.
The event, dubbed “The Sweetest Ride Around,” has been postponed twice due to rain, first in May and then in June. Organizers hope the third time will be the charm.
The King’s Fork High School Band Boosters are putting on the event to raise money for uniforms, equipment, travel costs and other needs for the band.
“We support the kids as far as making sure they have everything they need when it comes to an event,” said Denise Sykes, secretary of the group. “We do whatever we may have to do as far as money to help the kids pay for certain expenses.”
This is the first car show the group will hold, and it plans to hold the event again in the future if all goes well.
“We wanted to do something that not only would get the family out for an outing but also would raise money for the kids,” Sykes said. “The community can support their local high school, and they get to see exactly who it’s supporting.”
The group expects between 200 and 250 cars and bikes and up to 500 spectators, Sykes said.
“We’d like for them to come out and have a good time,” said Tasha Brothers, vice president of the group. “We would just encourage all of the public in general to come out.”
Vendor booths, a 50/50 raffle, DJ, bounce house and concessions all will be on site. “Little kids can have something to do as well,” Brothers said.
