High school seniors Lauren Boze of Wakefield, Marissa Haydu of Zuni, and Alexis Manson of Smithfield have each earned $1,000 Worth H. Hudson college scholarships from the Education Scholarship Foundation of the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives.

Boze, the daughter of Paul and Dawn Rogers, will be graduating from Tidewater Academy and plans to study speech and hearing sciences at East Carolina University.

Haydu, the daughter of Mark and Dena Haydu, is a senior at Southampton High School.  She has been accepted by Christopher Newport University, where she plans to study accounting and leadership studies.

Manson, the daughter of Ivan and Paula Manson, will be attending the University of Georgia upon graduation from Smithfield High School to study international affairs and pre-law.

This year, the VMDAEC Educational Scholarship Foundation is awarding 50 Worth M. Hudson Scholarships to students who live in areas served by electric cooperatives in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. These grants can be used to pay for tuition, fees and books.

The scholarships are named in honor of Worth Hudson, the foundation’s first chairman and former chairman of the board of directors of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative in Chase City.
