Police probe crash, thefts

Police are investigating a single-vehicle accident potentially tied to vehicle break-ins along Bridge Road that took place early Tuesday.
About 3:35 a.m., an officer spotted a vehicle believed to have been involved in the break-ins and initiated a pursuit, according to a city press release. The pursuit was terminated, but the vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Malibu, was later found crashed in a ditch in the 8800 block of Carters Cove Road in the Sleepy Lake neighborhood.
The driver was injured and remained on scene, but two other occupants had fled on foot following the crash. Both were located within the hour with the assistance of police dogs.
Items located in the vehicle are believed to have been stolen during recent thefts from vehicles in the area, according to the press release. The vehicle’s plates did not match the vehicle, and it is believed to have been stolen; however, the theft had not yet been reported, according to the release.
All three of the vehicle’s occupants were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening. One passenger, an adult male, was airlifted. The driver of the vehicle was an adult male. The second passenger was a 17-year-old male, according to the release.
The investigation remains ongoing, and traffic warrants will be secured against the driver, according to the release. Other criminal warrants are pending.
