Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Drequan Wilson, senior for King’s Fork High School soccer: He was instrumental in helping his team achieve two road victories this past week in the Southeastern District and improve to 5-4 overall this season. He scored two goals in the Bulldogs’ 3-1 victory over Deep Creek High School on Tuesday, and he produced another goal in their 3-2 win against Great Bridge High School on Thursday.
  • Lauren Maddrey, senior for Nansemond River High School softball: She keyed two cross-city rivalry wins. In an 11-1 Monday victory over host King’s Fork High School, she pitched all six innings, throwing eight strikeouts, allowing five hits and only one walk. Pitching the final 5.1 innings on Tuesday, she held visiting Lakeland High School at bay to allow for a 6-5 comeback NR win and added two hits on offense.
  • Sam Neal, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball: He had an outstanding week at the plate. Despite the Saints’ 4-2 loss to visiting Norfolk Academy on Thursday, he was 3-for-3 with a run batted in. In a 7-2 Tuesday road win over Norfolk Christian School, he was 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. In a 14-1 road win over Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, he had a hit, RBI and run scored.
