Last chance to vote

OK, so you have one last chance today to vote for your favorite among 39 entrants in the Suffolk News-Herald’s 2016 Priceless Pets Photo Pageant. Without revealing the leaders, we can tell you that the competition is a close one, and there’s plenty of time before the online contest closes at midnight for the standings to shuffle.
Voters can choose from among cute kittens, a gorgeous guinea pig and a whole pack of delightful dogs. The top three vote-getters will be profiled in an April 27 special section in the newspaper, and they’ll receive awards at the Suffolk Humane Society’s annual Mutt Strut, set for May 1 at Bennett’s Creek Park in North Suffolk.
We set up the Priceless Pets competition as a fun way to raise awareness about Mutt Strut, which is one of the humane society’s biggest fundraisers of the year. The organization has set a goal of raising $35,000 in the event this year.
Individuals or teams can register for the walk online at shsmuttstrut.dojiggy.com.The cost is $15 for each person. There will be prizes for top individuals and top teams, including an iPad Mini for the top overall fundraiser and a pizza party for up to 12 people at Sal’s for the top team. Human pledge walk participants usually bring their pooches along on a leash or walk in honor of their cat or in memory of a beloved pet.
Organizers also plan to have games, entertainment, vendors, adoption opportunities and more available for guests to enjoy. Assuming the weather holds, this should be one of Suffolk’s most fun events of the year, and it will be a great way to spend time with the family, while enjoying a bit of canine companionship and maybe even finding a great new four-legged family member to adopt.
Meanwhile, you can show a little love for the participants in the Priceless Pets contest by clicking over to www.suffolknewsherald.com. Look for the Priceless Pets ad near the top of the page, click it and then choose up to three of your favorite pets.
Vote now! Tomorrow, it will be too late.
